Overlooking the Gateway of India
The Taj Mahal Palace overlooks the majestic Gateway of India. This legendary 5-star hotel in Mumbai has played host to kings, dignitaries and eminent personalities from across the globe, and is acknowledged as a world leader in hospitality. Each of the 285 rooms and suites are a striking blend of nostalgic elegance, rich history and modern facilities.
Strategically located in Mumbai’s prime historical and commercial hub, the Taj Mahal Palace is walking distance from Colaba Causeway, known for its touristy tiny roadside shops. The city’s financial hub, parliament, stadium, offices and shopping districts are all located within close proximity; as is a flourishing art and heritage precinct with must visit museums, art galleries, churches and synagogues.
In 1966, George Harrison checked into The Taj Mahal palace hotel under an assumed name and studied sitar under Pandit Ravi Shankar and it was to commemorate this legendary occasion that the Ravi Shankar Suite was created. The suite occupies a prime location at the centre of the Taj’s sea-facing elevation, an exalted location being part of its very inception. Adorned with original artifacts and memorabilia from the Ravi Shankar foundation and artworks of painters like Jamini Roy, Raja Ravi Verma and Raza, every facet pays homage to the legendary composer. There is even a dedicated library with a collection of concert recordings of Pandit Ravi Shankar and George Harrison.
